Unboxing & Assembly
The RX80 ships in a huge box and is about 95% pre-assembled. You still fit saddle, front wheel, mudguards, rack and handlebar; the quick-start sheet explains everything. Important: mount the headlight above the two fork bumpers with roughly 10 mm extra gap, or it will hit the mudguard when the fork bottoms out.
First Ride & Feel
As a total e- and fat-bike newcomer the first ride was a wow: four-inch knobbies float over roots, gravel and fields yet track straight on asphalt and even allow hands-free riding.
Motor & Range
The 48 V hub motor kicks in after roughly three-quarters of a crank turn, but the Shimano 7-speed makes first-gear starts easy. German rules forbid the throttle, so I removed it. First charge: 51 km across three days, last of five bars at 48 km. Full recharge: five hours. In steady 25 km/h mode today the battery still showed 4/5 bars after 27 km, so real-world range looks promising.
Brakes & Handling
Hydraulic discs needed 20 km to bed in; now they bite hard yet stay controllable, even at 45 km/h. In corners the bike feels planted; on sideways slopes the fat tires grip unevenly, so hold the bar firmly—normal for four-inch rubber.
Everyday Use & Off-Road
Off paved roads the RX80 is in its element, but it also hums happily on tarmac. Without assist the 33 kg mass is tough, with assist it disappears. Rack and fenders make shopping trips or tours easy; all tools are in the box.
Manufacturer & Support
Two paint scuffs on the rack showed bare metal. My mail host blocks China, so Burchda reached me via WhatsApp, explained, and sent a touch-up pen plus tracking. A fast, friendly fix; the rack itself is structurally fine.
Display & Motor Control
The YL81F display shows speed, PAS level, trip, total and a five-bar battery icon. Buttons switch PAS (0/1-3 or 0/1-5) and raise the limit from 25 to 45 km/h, swap km/miles, etc. It is bright in sun, back-lit in dusk, and the manual matches the menus one-to-one.
Room for Improvement
Other bikes using the same display unlock up to nine PAS levels and let you set motor power percent per level; on the RX80 these menus are hidden. Result: little boost in PAS 1-2, a sudden surge from 3 up. Opening these options via firmware would smooth the ride.
Overall
After 1.5 weeks the RX80 still makes me grin. Range, power, brakes and fun factor outweigh the quirks, and Burchda’s eager support inspires confidence. If you want an affordable yet solid fat-tyre e-bike for forest lanes, farm tracks and city commutes, give the RX80 a try.
My husband and I bought these last year and absolutely love them! I made it 28 miles using throttle only 5 assist with steep climbs before the battery died. We use that as a reference and always plan our trips 25 miles between stops to charge.
My only wish is that we purchased the extra batteries with the bike because they are so expensive to buy separately.

I haven't explored many of the modes of pedal assist yet, but the default mode when you turn it in worked quite well for me. It is a very solidly built bike. I particularly like the folding feature, which is why I chose this bike. It is easier for me to store in the folded position. Only negative is that it is a much darker green than the pictures on their website show. I contacted customer service who responded promptly that the pictures of the green bike on their website have been processed to show the product details which results in a much lighter green color than the actual bike.
